I believe everyone here has known Hollywood right? And also Plywood? As we know, Hollywood has become the house of best actor, best movie, best music and many more. Also Plywood for its unique dance, song and their clothes such as Sari. Now†¦ How about K-pop? Have you ever heard anything about K-pop? Have you ever seen any k-pop fan girls shouting like crazy to their idols? Will you think they have wasted a lot of time thinking about their idols 2417 rather than studying? If you think in this way, I think you've misunderstand those children who chase after Korean idols. I am a huge fan of KOP. I started becoming a KOP fan girl from 2009 until now. Before I am so into KOP I used to be a person who give up easily, don't have any dreams and doesn't really like to talk to people. The past 5 years of my fan girl life had its ups and downs, Joy and tears, excitement and fulfillment. One thing for sure, I do not regret every single moment of it. Some would say I kind of wasted my 5 year s of my life for KOP.One who does not experience it would surely never understand. The Journey helped me learn more, gain more, and enhance my skills more. The most important thing that ever happens to me was I improved my communication skills a lot by making friend with different fans. If I have never entered to the world of k-pop, I will not be able to step closer to one of my dreams. As u can tell, If not for KOP I would not have experienced this Journey. It Is not really how KOP changed me but how KOP helped me acquire and learn all those things that I know will be helpful in the future.

Informative Speech: Alfred Nobel

What would you say if one morning you wake up, read by mistake your own obituary, and see what people think about you? How would you like to be called:† the merchant of death, who built a fortune, by discovering new ways to mutilate and kill, is dead†. This happened to Alfred Nobel. The story is that when Alfred Nobel’s brother died, a French newspaper mistakenly published an obituary of Alfred. When he read this, he remained pained all of his life. The purpose of my speech is to inform you who Alfred Nobel is.Although, I have not known Alfred Nobel in person, by reading his biographies, along with my great interest in history of inventors qualifies me to speak on this matter. Today I would like to inform you, who Alfred Nobel is; what he had done to be famous, and how he affected our world/society. In the beginning, I will start with some background information, including place, family and education. Alfred Nobel was born on October 21, 1833, Stockholm, Sweden. He was the forth son of Caroline and Immanuele Nobel, a manufacturer of torpedoes, mines and explosives. In order to achieve better life conditions, when Alfred was nine years old, the family moved to Petersburg, Russia, where Alfred received private education. From the beginning, Alfred proved to be a genius. He was not only a brilliant student with vastly laboratory skills, but also a competent chemist. By the age of seventeen, he was fluently writing and speaking in five languages: English, French, German, Russian, as well as Swedish.According to Kenne Fant in a biography called â€Å"Alfred Nobel†: â€Å" All his life he derived nearly as much pleasure experimenting with language as he did experimenting with acids and powders in his laboratory(p. 5, ch. 13). † Trying to sum up his life in one sentence, he offered the following: â€Å" I am a misanthrope and yet utterly benevolent, have more then one screw loose yet am a super-idealist who digest philosophy more effic iently than food. † Today, since 1902, we mainly recognize Alfred Nobel as the founder of the Nobel Prize.Today, since 1902, most of the people recognize Alfred Nobel as the founder of The Nobel Prize. Now that I gave you some brief information about who Alfred Nobel is, I will tell you how he became famous. Fascinated by the speculative and experimental elements of chemistry, Alfred transformed his kitchen into a small laboratory. From the beginning, he became very interested in the inexplicable behavior of an explosive substance called nitroglycerine. Nitroglycerine is a yellow liquid that is explosive near sudden heat; also today, it is used as a vasodilator medicine. Therefore, in 1863, Alfred Nobel was the first to solve the mystery of detonating NG in a practical useful way. This detonator marked the beginning of Nobel’s reputation as an inventor. According to British historian F. D. Miles, â€Å"the introduction of a detonating cap is without doubt the greatest d iscovery that has ever been made, in the theory and practice of explosives. On this discovery all modern application of explosives is based (p. 57, ch. 12). † However, due to its dangerous properties, NG was very risky to handle and transport. In fact, it was so dangerous, that Nobel’s factory blew up killing his younger brother and other innocent people. After this incident, Alfred became even more determined in finding a new foolproof way to transport NG, but without diminishing its blasting power. Therefore, in 1867, once again Alfred proved himself the inventor of the impossible – a reddish-yellow plastic mass, called dynamite, established his fame world wide, for the second time. In his experiments, he experiment in search of better ones, so in 1875 he invented a more powerful form of dynamite, called blasting gelatin. Now that you know how Alfred Nobel became famous, I will tell you how the result of his experiments along with the legacy he left behind affect ed our society. First, critics believe that Alfred Nobel created his explosives for peace purposes only. His explosive substances were critical to mining operations and communication systems, such as the construction of the railroads and tunnels. Secondly, Alfred, himself said, â€Å"There is nothing in our world that can not be misused†. Thus, ballistite, recognized as one of Nobel’s most disturbing inventions, revolutionized the munitions industry. Moreover, three decades later, Krummel, one of his explosives factories became the site of Germany’s largest atomic reactor. In addition, the dynamite had its first use in 1870 when the Franco-Prussian war broke out. At his death, in 1896, ninety factories of manufacturing explosives and ammunition already existed. However, instead of all his â€Å"demonic devices† that he created, Alfred never wanted to be remembered as the â€Å"merchant of death who kills and mutilate†, thereby he rewrote his will, c reating the Nobel Peace Prize.Since 1902, every year in Sweden, the Nobel prize is awarded for achievements in chemistry, physics, psychology, medicine or literature and of peace. Today I had the pleasure to inform you about the life of Alfred Nobel, by also mentioning how he became famous and how he changed our world. According to Kenne Fant, â€Å"Alfred Nobel left a legacy of lasting importance. Through his prizes, this restless, eternal wanderer, has forever etched his name in human memory (p. 7,ch. I). †

Aspects of Psychology in Flannery

Psychology has been a part of literature since the beginning of its existence. Its references in the Bible which affirm that mankind is separated from the animal kingdom and also show us the normal pattern to lead an effective and rewarding Christian life are parts of psychology in the foundation of life's meaning. We see these writings as truth as we have them instilled within us at an early age when attending church and reading the bible.Psychology works the same way in every type of material one reads. One is subject to psychology and the part it plays in each of the short stories, novels or poems one reads. However one may have not be fully aware of how it affects our perception of the material. It is what keeps us interested in the story. The psychological appeal that comes with certain styles of writing and peaks the interest of the reader who is waiting to see the conclusion. As Thomas Kellogg states, â€Å"for the act of writing exemplifies to me the very essence of what it means to be human. Psychology is represented in each writing by the relationships that are created teens the authors and its readers. In Flannels O'Connor â€Å"Good Country People† her cognitive approach is easily understood, â€Å"cognitive psychology differs from other models in that it focuses on the human cognitive activity of structuring and interpreting one's world. † In this story we relate because we see Helga who believes in nothing and has seen what she believes to be evil since losing her leg. Her mind is so engrossed in negativity that she cannot get past the past. When she finally does she is left in the barn thinking to herself that she was right all along. We also see the DOD as her mother still believes in the bible and its meaning. She sees almost everyone as â€Å"good country people† or â€Å"the salt of the earth. † O'Connor uses a written psychological approach in the names of the characters. Mrs.. Freeman who works at the farm is a g ossip who freely repeats the stories she is told. Mrs.. Hopeful is theoretically a hopeful and positive person who is always accepting of people, the story suggests it is because she is a Catholic. The phrases of â€Å"Everybody is different† and â€Å"It takes all kinds to make the world† implies that she accepts and likes all kinds f people. When she says â€Å"people who looked on the bright side of things would be beautiful even if they were not† shows her positive side of thinking. Manley Pointer is just that, a man in a story with all female characters. His Manley ways seduce the immature Helga who loses herself because of a need for the affection she is lacking. â€Å"Brewer's ‘structural affect theory was the first model in discourse psychology that seriously attempted to integrate plot, agency, and emotions† into literature. This story has done Just that by having smaller parts that lead to the suspenseful end where Manley takes her artificia l leg and leave's her stranded or even the quick reference where Helga thinks he may have stood her up. That is what keeps each reader interested in the plot and makes one want to know the outcome. â€Å"The psychology of literature is therefore unique in its treatment of psychological matters because words are used to express and communicate information. † â€Å"Furthermore, writers are like psychologists in being interested in the mind, emotions and behavior. † In cautiously picking each word of the story they convey a message. In this story Mrs.. Hopeful describes her feelings for the new name of Helga for her daughter Joy. She thought â€Å"broad blank hull of a battleship,† it angered her so much that she refused to call her anything but Joy. â€Å"In the study of human nature, literature, a product of our evolved human brains, is a bountiful source of data on human desires and dispositions, drawing attention to what is really important in our lives. † This is shown in the way Helga both longs for a companion but is also a bit weary at the same time. Or how the mother is portrayed as a Christian, but cannot be proud of her daughter and the degree she received from college. When reading this story one can relate to he loneliness, happiness, lack of confidence masked by anger and utter disappointment felt by its characters. It is a truly outstanding story that shows the dynamic between the mother and her daughters, Helga and her mother, Helga and Manley as well as the mother and Mrs.. Freeman. Theses inner intricate stories can easily relate to everyday people and the trials and tribulations of society.

ATOD Personal Theoretical Paper - Essay Example As such, there is a need for prevention and treatment to avoid the condition to worsen and eventually, destroy certain parts of the body, such as the liver and kidney. Aside from its effects on a biological perspective, drug abuse also has a greater impact in the social and psychological aspects of the patient. And with this comes different perspectives interpreting the condition of drug abuse. The psychosocial aspect impacted by the condition has created several theories that allow the patient, the family and the society to understand the effects of such condition. Drug abuse is not something that affects the patient alone but it has a way of dragging the immediate circle of people that the patient is in contact with. It also extends to the people of the society since drug abuse has become a nationwide issue because of the number of cases that are reported. A recent popular approach to the study of drug abuse is the biopsychosocial approach. Compared to psychological approach, which sees drug abuse as a condition wherein the patient attaches itself to drug abuse to deal with personal needs and conflicts, the biological approach, which see drug abuse as a tendency of the body to crave for the dependency on the effects of the drugs abused, and social approach, which interprets drug abuse as something that is related to social conflicts and the need to belong, the biopsychosocial approach interprets drug abuse as a condition that combines and interrelates all three approaches. It does not deny or attempt to isolate the factors and the effects of drug abuse. It in fact seeks to understand how it creates a circular pattern that connects all three approaches. It is not a general approach to understanding drug abuse but is a specific approach that aims to see the different factors affecting all processes of the human mind and body. It may see m like a grand approach to understanding the condition and yes, it could be when interpreted wrongly. But

Developing a Close-Out Plan in Procurement Management Plan Research Paper

Developing a Close-Out Plan in Procurement Management Plan - Research Paper Example This calls in the legal advice from either the corporate legal counsel or an outside lawyer. This is a matter of withdrawing from the provisions of the outsourced contract. Usually the terms and processes for terminating a contract before time are spelled out in the initial contract. This section of the contract is called the termination clause. This clause is there for the protection of both the buyer and the seller, since termination before time can severely damage the interests of either party. Most procurement contracts usually require that the party who wants to terminate the contract before time must notify the other party within a reasonable amount of time, failure to which can result in severe financial penalties for that party. Another aspect of termination clause is the substitute provider. The party who wants to forfeit being part of the legal contract will have to find an alternative provider for the other party if it wants to get out of the contractual relationship. Such provisions and contingencies depend on the parties to the contract. There is no hard and fast rule to this as both parties make the rules themselves of earlier termination in the initial contract (Beyond the Information Systems Outsourcing Bandwagon, 2005). If a contract has a written provision that any modification or termination by agreement should be in written form, then any termination or modification cannot be made effective otherwise. But as stated earlier, this agreement is made by the parties to the contract and termination or modification can be made possible and legally effective orally, in written form, by an act, by staying silent or by inaction, if the initial contract contains such a provision (Viscassilas, 2006). Categorizing the differences in termination of contracts There are three general scenarios in which one party feel the urge and have legal approval to end the contract; Scenario A: Termination for Cause or Default (Seller’s Gaffe) This is a classic f ault from the seller’s side in which the buyer is not satisfied by the quality of the products or the delivery timings. In brief, the seller doesn’t fulfill his contractual obligations in the way he is bound to fulfill them. ‘Failure without legal excuse’ is the key term here that defines the seller’s breach. Seller fails to complete his critical obligations and the buyer is fully defensible in terminating the contracting immediately. Breach from the seller’s side should be ‘material’, which means that the damage to the buyer must be significant enough to give him the legitimate excuse to lay off the contract. Scenario B: Closure for the Suitability (of the Buying side) This tort is inspired by the Federal Acquisition Law which states that the federal government reserves the right to end the procurement contract for its convenience. Many other governmental agencies have followed this law since and have acquired the same legal pos ition in their procurement contracts. These governmental agencies can end the contract if and when they see fitting. These governmental bodies represent state, county and local and many industries are following this legal trend. If the buyer terminates the contract before it is legally expired, he/she needs to notify the seller at a reasonable time so as to not hurt him financially. After sending the notice, both parties must come to the negotiation table to sort

Multiculturalism has had corrosive effects on society.' Discuss, Assignment

Multiculturalism has had corrosive effects on society.' Discuss, referring to examples from different parts of the world - Assignment Example Living in a multicultural society encompasses a number of things. First, people have to accept the ethnicities and races of the other people. Secondly, in a multicultural society, people need to embrace unity in diversity (Asfaw, 2008:23). This is where different groups accept their diversity but still work together with others. Lastly, a multicultural society involves immigrants from other countries and regions. There are some people that seek refuge in different parts of the world for a variety of reasons. It is better to live in a multicultural society which is welcoming and hospitable than one’s homeland that may not offer much. However, multiculturalism has numerous corrosive effects towards the society. This paper will argue that multiculturalism has brought more harm than good. Though there are some advantages in terms of diversity, peaceful living and peaceful coexistence, multiculturalism has affected some parts with the consequences being recorded beyond limit. Howev er, multiculturalism cannot be annihilated since it could be infringing the rights of some people. There are various corrosive aspects that have been heightened by the development of multicultural societies (Parekh, 2006:17). Some of these aspects are deeply rooted in the society and could lead to a deteriorated cultural setting. In many instances, there are some groups of people that emerge and are disadvantaged among the rest. According to statistics, the multicultural societies lead to cropping up of some groups that are not morally right. Though some people are of the opinion that these groups should be legalised, some people are critically opposed to this idea. For example, reports state that crimes rates have been increasing in Canada due to multicultural induction. Different groups have been cropping up and this has led to an increase in the crime rates. There is a similar record in the united state where there has been an increase in crime rates. This has been attributed to the increase in the number of immigrants in the countries (Cameron, 2011:3). In recent times, the United States government has instilled strict measures on the issue of immigrants participating in crimes. They are sentenced to stringent terms in jail as the regulations that have been imposed are to reduce the crime rates. Indeed, the multicultural society has seen deterioration in the normal routine in these countries. This has affected the moral way of the society where crime rates should be decreased. In many instances where multiculturalism has affected the moral behaviour of the society, many of the affected people’s lives are destabilised. Similarly, there is change in the way of life. Change in the morality of a person will definitely bring change into the normal activities, socialising culture and behaviour in the workplaces (Kivisto, 2008:19). Culture is withdrawn from communities hence bringing misconduct of children who are born in today’s generations and the y cannot be advised. In many instances, the young generation does not conform to the culture that is instilled by the old generation. The new generation does not follow the previous culture that has been cultivated by the older generation. In most cases, the new generation does not follow the culture that has been in the society for a long time. This is ultimately brought by the issue of the multiculturalism in the society. Many different cultures have their different norms and activities that are

Zipcars Business Motivational Model for Customers and Partners Case Study

Zipcars Business Motivational Model for Customers and Partners - Case Study Example By introducing the Zipcars, the company helps the customers to save up to seventy per cent of their savings because they only pay for the hours they use the cars. Additionally, the cars are energy efficient and contribute less to the discharge of exhaust fumes into the environment. This motivates customers further. As a means of further motivating customer, the company has collaborated with several other organizations, businesses, and universities through some specific programs. As a way of reducing costs for businesses, Zipcar rents vehicles to them to use during the week when they are needed most. The same thing happens with universities as well. These services motivate the organizations to work harder with the mindset of cutting down on costs. It also aids cities in saving on their parking space. On a scale of 1 to 5, I will give the business a motivation of four while 3 to the universities. The cities’ motivation could be 2.5. 2. As Its Simplest Best The idea behind Zipcar is to help businesses cut down on the costs of running their businesses. Apparently, most business organizations incur huge costs in keeping and maintaining their motor vehicles. The same applies to universities and colleges that face the danger of vehicle wreckages and damages due to student’s responsibilities. Additionally, with as much as $ 1 million going into savings from the Zipcar system, the cities are worth adopting the strategy. With these concepts in mind, potential beneficiaries of Zipcar’s services would be easily convinced to adopt the services of the firm. 3. Figure 6.3 Zipcar’s business model involves the four simple steps. These are â€Å"joining, reserve, unlock, and drive.† In this model, the firm urges its clients to join it through registering as members. The organization has 500,000 members with cards. A person pays a fee of $25 to join. In the reserve, one retains membership with the firm. The person pays an annual membership fee o f $50 to reserve his or her place to restore the membership card. The membership card allows the client to unlock the potentials that come with the company. Then the customer drives away with the car 4. Zipcar’s Rapid Growth and Strength Zipcar is growing at an express rate. This is because ten years after its formation, it was able to offer a whooping 8000 vehicles across the urban areas of Canada, North America, and London. Additionally, the firm has also expanded its operations and penetrated deep into the market by collaborating with other business enterprises to cut down their operating costs and increase the profit margins for the firm. However, the firm has an excellent operational model. Its cars are energy efficient. Nevertheless, by collaborating with several business enterprises, the firm will be forced to use heavy trucks in some cases. Apparently, heavy trucks are key contributors of carbon dioxide emission into the atmosphere. This will jeopardize Zipcar’ s strength of ensuring environmental sustainability. Discussion Questions of Case 4.2 The compelling reason for the successful business plan competition is the strong vision. This is partially attributable to the kind of approach it used in presenting its ideas to the audience. Although it is a business enterprise driven by the need to make profit, it puts emphasis on its humanitarian assistance mission across the disadvantaged populations in the developing world. Apparently, most people are touched by the deplorable conditions that some populations of the world go through. The marketing strategy for D.Light would involve demonstrations to potential clients. As a cofounder, I will seek the approval of the governments of these countries with downtrodden populations and offer some samples to the

Writting health care business paper - Essay Example The organizations can prioritize them, work on the solutions and provide a cost effective measure to it that will attract the clients and increase the business. Based on the data that is given for the possible causes of health and illness conditions, accidents top the fatal count of children. If some emergency recovery centers are established, could prove as a decisive factor in improving the client feedback. The data provided is classified age wise, and for persons in the age of 45, cancer and heart problems are the prime cause of illness. For persons aging around 74, chronic diseases tops the list. Finally on general assessment, the evaluation of the economic condition would help greatly in identifying key market niches. For example, Jehovah's Witness community revenue details are most appealing considering the fact they just followed a single policy of implementing private insurance and Medicare. Such scenarios boost the economy of the region and thereby allow other organizations to tread the same path. Innovative Medical Groups Innovative Medical, a $265 million revenue medical group is considered to be the biggest competitor for MCMPC. It has more than 1100 employees and is expanding its serving region with its new alignment with County Regional Medical Center. Provided below are the basic details of the group. Their strengths, weakness as well as the opportunities and threats in comparison with MCMPC are detailed here. Strengths The main backbone of Innovative medical groups is their strategic planning headed by Dr. Schwartz, who has a degree of MBA aiding him in managing things effectively. He has a great record in dealing... Threats With about 50% of the residents of the county trying to relocate themselves, it is posing a bigger threat for the group to make them come back for treatment. It is demanding that several advanced technologies have to be implemented in order to sustain the same rate of client visits to the group. But this investment does not 100% ensure that the profits will be sustained. It is posing to be a serious threat. Partnership Analysis In order for MCMPC to regain its financial stability and stature in the market, it needs to partner with any of the two potential partners currently doing service in the same profession. It has to do it in order to achieve new strategy based advantages, similar to the way Innovative Medical has achieved through its collaboration with CRMC. Following are the analysis and consultation views on what would be the best association for MCMPC that could be with either Good Sisters or Riverside Hospitals. Good Sisters Association If Good Sisters is considered to be the partner, then there are certain pros and cons that need to be taken into account. The pros include that Good Sisters is present in the southern part of the county; partnering with it would increase benefits reaped through this association in that region. Apart from this sole reason, there is not much that would enhance the chances of partnership relationship.

Financial Reporting and Accountability exam questions Essay

Financial Reporting and Accountability exam questions - Essay Example 6 Consolidations: Qualitative 7 Why do regulators require consolidations? 7 What is fair value and why is it an important concept in consolidation? 7 Why do regulators require inter-company profits to be removed from consolidations? 7 Corporate Governance 8 What is ‘the public interest’ and what is its relationship to accounting? 8 Do we need mandatory regulation of reporting? If so how should we regulate? Are there major problems? 8 IASB and due process – what are the stages of due process – why is convergence with the US important? 9 What is the ‘market for corporate takeovers’ and the ‘market for managers’ – and what impact have these on accounting disclosure? 10 Reporting Financial Statements Why is one of the elements of the financial statements useful to shareholders? Statement of the changes in position of equity for a company provides the movement of the holding position of the equity shareholders. This statement gen erally comprises of the net profits that can be attributed to the shareholders, the changes in the share capital reserves, the dividend that is paid to the shareholder, the effect of the accounting policy changes or the any kind of changes that has been done to correct any error in the previous period. This is an essential statement that needs to be disclosed to the shareholders because the factors that have an effect on the changes in the position can be known. This statement would be reflecting the nature of the changes that take place in the equity reserves which otherwise would not be available to the shareholders. For example the issue and redemption of the share capital can only be obtained from the statement of financial position. What is the purpose of one kind of disclosure e.g. discontinued activities, or expenses such as audit? Discontinued operations of an enterprise would entail those activities by which the company would be selling a component through any transaction o r demerger or would be disposing off the assets or liabilities of the organisation or abandoning any component of the business. It is important for a company to make the disclosures of the discontinued operations because it would help in assessing the cash flows of the enterprise, the capacity to generate earnings and to make proper segregation of the information about the discontinuing operations form that of the continuing operations. Organisations should cite the evidence of auditing process in the annual statements. Thus the fees that are paid for the auditing as well as the non auditing services need to be paid. On the other hand it is considered that the independence of the auditors is essential for a sound and fair auditing process. Hence by the payment of the fees the quality of auditing in the organisation is ensured. Earnings per Share Basic and diluted EPS Basic EPS is the earnings of the company that accrues to the shareholders of the organisation. Basic EPS is derived b y dividing the net profit of the company by the total amount of outstanding shares. The amount net profit is calculated after distribution of the dividends to the preference shareholders. This may be explained with the example of the following example. Suppose the Net Profit available for a company is $ 40000. And the number of equity shares outstanding is 2000. Then the EPS of the company would be $50. Diluted EPS on the other hand is the net profit of the company divided by the number of equ

Skeletal Disease Essay I know that skeletal disease pertain to the bones in the body. These can be deadly and limit the ability to move around and have a good, solid range of motion. I know that skeletal diseases are treated by orthopedics diagnose and treat disorders with bones and orthopedic surgeons operate on the bones. I would like to know what the range of treatments are based upon the diseases. I also would like to know the statistics on skeletal disease and how common it is within America and other countries, such as which has the highest amount of bone cancer and which has the lowest? These questions fascinate me, especially the ones pertaining to cancer. I would like to know about more skeletal diseases in general. My skeletal disease that I chose is bone cancer otherwise known as sarcomas. I chose this one because cancer has always fascinated me. The one thing that kills a lot of individuals across the world not just USA and the bigger countries but no country is exempt. Cancer does not care who it takes, their age, gender, sexual preference, nothing matters to cancer. I want to study cancer in hopes of maybe finding a common pattern that can one day be overcome and then cancer can be eliminated for good. My search started where almost all research papers start, on Google. I searched bone cancer and picked the medical website on cancer. This website gave me good information on the different types of bone cancers and how to determine the difference between bone cancer, bone marrow cancer, and cancers that migrate to the bones. My other website (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.3322/caac.21166/full.) gave me statistics on the amount of new cases and deaths in United States of America with new cases and new deaths. I learned, from the first site, that there are many different actual bone cancers like Osteosarcomas, Chondrosarcomas, Ewing tumor, Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma (MFH), Fibrosarcoma, Giant cell tumor of bone, Chordoma. These all have different causes and effects but one thing they all have in common is that they all originate in the bones, not in bone marrow or other organs and metastasizes to the bones. Cancer cells that start in other organs and move to the bone still have same structure as where they began.

Colour Perception in Skin Disease Diagnosis

Colour Perception in Skin Disease Diagnosis Color Perception Dermatologist’s perspective Abstract: Light and color are two important tools for the dermatologist in diagnosing skin diseases. Many articles have focused on the importance of light and illumination but there are only scanty literature about the importance of color perception. The definitions of color, color spaces and their types, assessment of color and its applications, recent advances in human color vision is reviewed. Key words: Color, colorspace, RGB, CIE L*a*b*, Spectrophotometry, Colorimetry Color perception is due to the evoked neural responses in the eye and visual cortex because of light stimulus. Colors differ from each other in wavelength, intensity, and saturation. The importance of color in plants ranges from attracting insects for pollination to production of bright colored fruits for seed dispersal. Color pigments are present in many animal species and has evolutionary importance for searching food, escaping from predators etc. Human skin color is linked with evolution and is changing according to the environment where humans live. Color science has various implications in telemedicine, dentistry, biometrics, anthropology, cosmetics, textiles , artificial intelligence, etc . Color of the human skin, mucosa, nails plays an important part in the social communication ,diagnosis and treatment of dermatological disorders. Dermatologists need to know about the biophysics of skin, eye ,color spaces , illumination sources to understand about perception of color . All visible colors to human eye can be produced by some combination of the three primary colors, either by additive or subtractive processes. Human color perception is most sensitive to light in the yellow-green region of the spectrum. We have three types of cone receptors for the long(L),medium(M),short (S) wavelengths. The balance of neural activity in these three receptors accounts for the millions of color shades. This is utilized by the Bayer array in modern digital cameras. The number of L, M, S color sensitive cones in the human retina differs among people by up to forty times. Human perception of color is controlled much more by the brain than by the eyes. Color vision has distributed processing in the cortex, with a number of brain zones being involved in processing wavelength data and creating color sense . Cone receptors in the human eye lose their color sensitivity with age, but subjective experience of color remains same over the years. The perception of color is flexibl e and relies on biological processes in the brain and eye. Phenotyping based on skin color has been attempted by many researchers the well known one is Fitzpatrick’s I to VI skin types.Though there are some drawbacks in this classification this is useful in a variety of ways treating diseases with phototherapy, in predicting the post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, for making skin colored prostheses , skin grafting etc. Human skin color can also be classified by visual color matching using the Munsell charts. But visual clinical methods of skin color evaluation for diagnostic purposes are so far mostly subjective and inaccurate. Many studies quantitate the skin color based on the spectrophotometry or tricolorimetry measurements which gives the absolute values of the color. The spectral reflectance provides a lot of biological and medical information about skin and mucosa. In case of non availability of these equipments digital cameras and software has been employed to compare and quantitate human color taken under standard conditions. Analysis of color data has to be done by a conceptual tool called color space. Color space aid the process of describing color between people , between software or machines. Color gamut is the area enclosed by a color space in two or three dimensions. Color space is useful to understand the color capabilities of a particular device or digital image and also useful to identify colors in a more intuitive way. There are many color spaces – sRGB, Adobe RGB, L*a*b*, L*u*v*, CMYK etc. Different color spaces are better for different applications. RGB is used in many display devices computer monitor, digital camera or a television, which uses these as its base colors. CMYK is more commonly used in printers. However, no two display devices are equal. A color shade defined by certain value of RGB on one device may look completely different on another device. A device dependent color space is a color space where the color produced depends both the parameters used and on the equipment used for display. Many devices have their own device-dependent RGB color spaces. RGB space can be visualised like a cube with the three axes corresponding to red, green and blue. L*a*b* color space proposed by CIELAB is popular because it is device independent and the L parameter has a good correlation with perceived lightness. It is non linear and intended to mimic the logarithmic responses of the human eye. Any color can be described by a combination of three coordinates, L*, a*,and b* , where L* is the total quantity of light reflected ,a* represents color ranging from red to green , and b* represents color ranging from blue to yellow . L* measures the brightness component of color, and it varies on an achromatic gray scale between a value of 0 (black) to100 (white). The a* and b* coordinates can be converted into hue angle and chroma of color . Hue refers the degree to which a stimulus can be described as similar to or different from stimuli where 0Â ° represents red and 90Â ° represents yellow. Chroma describes the intensity of color, with higher chroma indicating greater intensity. Melanin density and distribution can be assessed by the L* values wheras erythema can be known by the a* values. The color of gluteal region can be taken as the constitutive color whereas the cheek will give details of the facultative color. Skin that is usually exposed to the sun has a more intense red component, presumably because of increased vascularization. Exposed skin also showed lower reflectance (L*) than covered skin, probably because of melanin .Higher L* levels were associated with lighter skin, tendency for sunburn and less tanning . Han K et al (1) observed that the L*a*b* color space to be the most popular system used to measure skin color. The average L*a*b* values for the body parts were 61.74, 9.56 and 17.07, respectively. The site of lightest skin was found to be the medial arm , whereas the darkest was on the forehead . Redness was highest on the cheek and lowest on the medial arm . Skin color was lighter and more yellow in females than in males, whereas redness was higher in males. The factors that significantly influenced L* were sex, work place and sunbathing, factors that influenced a* were sex, work place and smoking; and the factors that influenced b* were sunbathing and age . Ian LWeatherall et al (2) did color measurement in ventral forearm of skin of 99 subjects and expressed the results in terms of color space L*, a*, and b* values. L* values ranged from 59.7 to 73.4.The hue angle ranged from 54.0 to 77.8degrees.The chroma values ranged from 13.2 to 21.6. These color-space parameters are proposed for the unambiguous communication of skin color information that relates directly to visual observations of clinical importance or scientific interest. Yun et al (3) introduced a new technique to measure L*a*b* color coordinates and the melanin and erythema indexes at the same time by analyzing the skin color of normal Asians . While the correlation of the melanin index with the L* value was negative, it was positively correlated with the a* and b* values. While the erythema index showed a weak correlation with the b* value, its correlation was negative with the L* value and positive with the a* value. Change in colorimetric values of bruises over time was significant for all three color parameters (L*a*b*), the most notable changes being the decrease in red (a*) and increase in yellow (b*) starting at 24 h.( 4) Colorimetric skin color values can also be used to study pigmentation capacity, to predict the risk of actinic cancer, in the study of reactions induced by physical and allergic stimuli ,for choosing appropriate sunscreens (5) Comparison using cheaper and novel ideas in this regard is yet to come. Recent advances in Information technology has allowed us to understand color vision and to extract the true color of the skin. Lord Of The Rings Leadership Style Theology Religion Essay

Lord Of The Rings Leadership Style Theology Religion Essay Gandalf-is a transformational leader who can be a wonderful and uplifting experience. They put passion and energy into everything. They care about you and want you to succeed they also make continued efforts to motivate and rally their followers, constantly doing the rounds, listening, soothing and enthusing. The Transformational Leader seeks to infect and reinfect their followers with a high level of commitment to the vision. The extent to which a leader is transformational, is measured first, in terms of his influence on the followers (Bass, B. M,(1985), Leadership and Performance, N.Y. Free Presss). In the film Lord of the Rings (Fellowship of the Ring) Gandalf takes a risk at Balrog where he fights the dragon which is made up of fire until he kills the dragon, before he took on the mighty dragon he tells the Aragon, Gimli and legolas to go save themselves which shows that Gandalf is a brave person. Aragon has a great man theory leadership style he comes from a line of Kings. He has leadership qualities in him. That leadership is an inherent ability. Prominent leaders as having the right qualities or personality for the position, implying that inherent characteristics are what make these people effective leaders.Spencer said that such great men are the products of their societies, and that their actions would be impossible without the social conditions built before their lifetimes( Carneiro, (1981) Robert L. Herbert Spencer as an Anthropologist Journal of Libertarian Studies, vol. 5, 1981, pp.171-2). In the film when on Gandalfs absence Aragon was leading Gimli and Lagolas to find hobbits Pipin and Merry. Gimli and Lagolas followed him without any hesitation because of Aragons family history coming from a line of kings and his experience in tracking and fighting ability How effective was the Leader in the film. Gandalf was effective in the film because he was very old person who had seen the with the word friend, Gandalf started to say words of different language which showed that his a person of wide range of knowledge where he does not think the same as the other people in the film. Aragon is an effective person in the movie because he comes from a line of kings. At Gandalfs absence he leads the fellowship. He also is good at tracking people and at sword fighting which makes him an effective leader. The power held by the leaders Gandalf- Has expert power where they can influence others with their expertise and knowledge. Expert power is based on what one knows, one with experience and skills. In the film Gandalf has a lot of knowledge and experience since his a very old person. He has knowledge about elfs, oks and hobbits. Gandalf has referent power also because all his followers like him and respected him since he was old with the most knowledge. Gandalf also had legimate power he was part of the Isatari and was second of Sauramon, he was known as Gandalf the grey. Situation in the movie since he was a wizard and of the second order the fellowship characters followed him to Mordo since he had the most knowledge and experience, on the way to Mordo and where crossing Moira Gandalf fought the Balrog where followers obeyed his orders when he told them to go as he knew that they will come and help him and will also die. Aragon had referent and charismatic power because he made decisions which were for the betterment of the people he had qualities which motivated people and was effective while speaking and his followers liked him. In the film after everyone thinks that Gandalfs dead when he falls down a clip while fighting with the dragon Aragon takes the position of leader, with his quick decision making he is able to convince the mind of the people and lead them to the right direction. Situation in the film and theories A situation in the film which identifies Gandalfs leadership style was when he fought with Sauraman, he knew he was weaker than Sauraman but he still fought him so Frodo could complete his quest which is destroy he ring. As a transformational leader Gandalf thinks for the benefit of the other people first than himself. He uses his abilities to fight evil so people can be safe from Saurag the dark lord. Aragon is also a transformational leader he taught for mankind first than himself in the scene were Frodo was being attacked by the big monster Aragon jumped in to safe Frodo and was hurt in the process, his attempts was to safe Frodo so he could destroy the ring and save mankind. Type of organisation, level of seniority and its effects The fellowship of the ring was formed at Rivendell. The fellowship was made up of nine members to destroy the ring in the fire at Mount Doom which was in Mordor. The members in the fellowship were Gandalf, Aragon, Frodo, Sam, Legolas, Gimli, Pipin, Merry and Boromir. Gandalf lead the fellowship of the ring on his absence Aragon took over Gandalf was the leader of the fellowship of the ring everyone agreed since he had the most knowledge and experience because his seen the world more than anyone. He was the most senior person. The Blake Mouton Managerial grid says some leaders are people and some are task oriented (Mind Tools Limited 2013). Gandalf is people oriented he cares for people. Aragon was from a line of kings he had leadership ability in him. He used his power to motivate people with his leadership skills. In the movie he took over leadership when the situation arose, on Gandalfs absence he took over as leader. Spencer said that such great men are the products of their societies, and that their actions would be impossible without the social conditions built before their lifetimes ( Carneiro, (1981) Individual Culture and traits Gandalf was a wizard in the Isatari and was of the second order. He was second behind Saruman who had misused his power and had joined forces with Saurag the dark Lord. Gandalf used his powers for the good of the people because in their organisation they were allowed to give advice to people but not use their powers on the people. Gandalf was trying to help Frodo destroy the ring and save mankind. Aragon was the king of Gondor but secretly lived the life of a Rivendell ranger after his father death. Since leadership was in his blood he knew how to lead people. This is the reason why people followed him. Leadership theories Consideration- this leader care for their followers and take into account their ideas and feelings. According to findings and studies people exhibit two leadership styles which are people oriented and task oriented. In the movie Gandalf and Aragon are two leaders and both are people oriented, they take notice of their followers feeling and ideas. Both Gandalf and Aragons main motive was to destroy the ring and save mankind. In the movie seen in the end Aragon had to let Frodo go and destroy the ring on his own. Aragon made a big sacrifice choosing between individual (Frodo) and mankind survival but he still lead his followers and saved their lives. The Whale Rider Leadership Style Koro- Is an Autocratic leader: is a leader who dictates procedures, decides what goals are to be achieved, and directs and controls all activities without any meaningful participation by the members of the group. Authoritarian leaders make decisions independently with little or no input from the rest of the group Cherry, Kendra. Lewins Leadership Styles. About.com Psychology. Web. 14 Mar. 2012. In the movie Koro always made the decision and did not take any persons input not  even his wife. Koro has absolute control over his followers. Pai is a servent leader: Servant Leadership argues that the most effective leaders are servants of their people. Servant leaders get results for their organization through whole-hearted attention to their followers and followers needs. Larry Spears outlined ten characteristics of a servant leader empathy, listening, awareness, healing, persuasion, foresight, conceptualization, stewardship, commitment to the growth of others, and building community. In the movie Pai is a young girl who wants to keep everyone happy especially her grandfather. When the whale needed help to go off shore Pai rode the whale to safety. Effectiveness of the leader Koro was an effective leader in the movie as he was old and wise. He had knowledge of his Moari culture. He is a person who makes final decisions and everyone has to follow it even if people do not agree with the decision he makes. His downfall is he did not listen to anyones ideas and thoughts being the whale rider. Type of power Koro has expert: When you have knowledge and skills that enable you to understand a situation,  he has knowledge of his culture. In the movie he trains the boys in the settlement on how to become chiefs were he teaches the boys the ancient Moari fight songs and how to defend themselves as their ancestors did. Koro also uses his power on how a chief uses their power. Koro also abuses his power mostly on his granddaughter by mistreating her because he believes that girls cannot be leaders. Pai is a referent leader followers like her because she is influential with her words and is respected by the people. In referent power the leader sets an example for the people. In the movie when Pai was ill treated by Koro she was brave through such a difficult time. Pai leadership style is motivating the people as she is good with her words which shows she has charismatic power.. She knows that she is from a chiefly family and wants to lead her tribe successfully in the future In the movie Koro believes only man can be leaders he shows he is an autocratic leader. He also shows coersive power, which is the power to withhold punishment. In one of the movie scene where he tells Pai to go to the beach as she is a girl and is not part of the meeting. Koro does not want to accept changes in the world. In another scene he gets angry with Pai You dont mess with sacred things when he caught Pai indulging with the Moari defensive art; again he shows disrespect for his granddaughter. In the movie scene Pai is determined to learn the Moari defensive fight, one of the boys comes to teach her the fight when he sees the determination of her learning the fight. This shows that Pai is a referent leader as people like her determination. Type of organisation and seniority This leadership situation in The Whale Rider: The movie is set in New Zealand in the fishing village of Whangere. Paikea the whale rider is the ancestor of these people Koro is the chief of the village and he comes from a line of chief who was known as Paikea who arrived on the island centuries ago riding on a whale. Koro is the chief of the village and is the most senior person in the settlement. He has a lot of knowledge about their culture and his believe is that man can only be leaders and warriors and Pai can never be a leader. Koro has a bureaucratic leadership style His way or the high way everything must be done according to procedure or policy.  But he needed to change the way of his leadership because many people did not like the way of his leadership. Pai is nowhere in the hierarchy as her grandfather wanted a grandson and he believes that Pai is a bad fortune. Pai does not let this matter let her down because she is an outspoken person and never gives up. Individual culture and its effect Koro and Pai played an effective role as leaders. Pai and Koro lives are surrounded with culture (Moari) and tradition example the whale riding story of Paikea, chanting and their knowledge (Mead, 2006, p.14). Other leadership styles Paikea in the movie illustrates trait theory, the qualities that she possesses as a leader comes from her chiefly background. She has the determination towards learn her culture from her grandfather, she has respect for her culture and people and in return her people respect her and trust her as well. She is a very charismatic leader, even after beating Hemi in a Taiaha fight, Hemi is willing to support her and help her. She is brave enough to jump into the sea to get her grandfathers whale tooth, which clearly describes her quality of bravery and courageous above all her determination to becoming a leader. The movie ends with Koro accepting Pai as a Wise Leader, and the people and the whale following her commands. In good company Dan Foreman is an executive in his company who learns that his company is being demoted. He is a charismatic leader, who has the ability to motivate and influence people. He is respected and liked by his people. These leaders are mostly ethical leaders. They are people oriented leaders. Carter on the other hand is the new head of the advertisement department, because of him Dan is being demoted. Carter displays transformational leadership. Hence transformational leadership is characterized by the ability to bring about significant change in employees and the organization, thus the company believed that Carter would be the best to bring about changes in the company. Cater is also transactional leader he fired employees when the company needed cut downs. Effectiveness of the leader Dan is very determined, and is very effective as a leader he is able to influence people. People really liked him and have respect for him. He was the kind of leader that people wanted. Even after being demoted from as an executive and replaced by a young man half his age, he is still willing to work for the company, he shows his loyalty towards his work and as well as his employees. Carter was also a very effective leader; because he was given the authority people always listen to him and followed him. He possesses great knowledge in his field, he had different kind of ideas as to how to promote and advertise. He also had the ability to influence people. He was not really liked by the people but because he was chosen as the head of the department people had to follow him. Type of power Dan Forman has referent power which is the people in his department liked him as he was a people oriented person he cared for his staff. A scene in the movie where it showed he has referent power been when he was demoted the employees in his department showed sympathy. Dan Forman also has charisma power because he has the ability to speak and motivate the workers and since he is a referent power people listen to him. Carter Duryea has legimate power because Duryea walks into Sports America with the title of Chief of Marketing. But did not have enough experience working for a magazine. His previous job was selling mobiles to kids. Carter uses his power in a negative way which was to lower expense by terminating employees In the movie Carter tries to terminate employees who have worked in the company for years but Dan does not want that to happen as he knows that people who are being terminated have put a lot of effort in their jobs which shows that Dan cares for his workers. Type of organisation, level of seniority and its effect Dan Forman and Carter Duryea work for sports magazine which is known as Sports America Carter Duryea is the marketing chief who is the senior person in the department. Which means that Dan has to work for carter? Carter has legimate power were people have to listen to him. Dan Forman was demoted which means he was no longer a legimate power but was Carters assistant even so that does not have employees and the client listen to him. Dan Forman had referent power he had the most knowledge in his department so people listen to him. Individual culture and its effect Dan Forman is 51 years old and is old school; he balances his life with family. He is married with two kids. He is demoted from work but strives back to his marketing chief position. Dan Forman shows respect to all people. Forman has a good reputation in the company and becomes mentor for carter at the end. Carter is a 26 year old and is from the new generation. He is after a successful carrier, but does not have a personal life, this illustrates the failure of his marriage. He does not believe in old school thoughts of Dan Formans. Carter did not like the work but was in it for the money. Leadership theories This film illustrates great man theory. Great man theory sought to identify the inherited traits leaders possessed that distinguish them from people who werent leaders with the premise that some people are born with traits that make them natural leaders, thus Dan illustrates the qualities a leader needs according to great man theory. At the end of the film Carter realizes that Dan is the kind of leader that everyone wanted, therefore he tells him that he has learnt a lot from Dan. Dan on the other hand gets his position back Carter is able to learn what he lacks and he believes he could have never been better then Dan.

Professional Wrestling Proposal :: essays papers

Professional Wrestling Proposal Part I:Interest and Motivation The topic I have chosen to write about is the world of professional wrestling. There are many reasons as to why this subject has interested me. One major reason is that I grew up watching pro-wrestling on television. As a child, I was fascinated with the spectacle of the wrestling matches and wondered at the wrestlers themselves. At that age, I took wrestling for what it was. It was a full-contact gladiator sport filled with exaggerated and extravagant wrestlers, cocky commentators, and interesting "one-of-a kind" personalities which added up to a high entertainment value. As I got older and more aware of the sport, I did not just see it as another part of sports entertainment but also as a multi-million dollar business which catered to a wide audience. I began to wonder what was it that made this popular genere work and how it was able to attract the crowds of people, young and old. I also wanted to know the history of pro-wrestling. How did it get started and how it became a part of the American culture? As a fan for several of my childhood years, I now wanted to know the real deal behind wrestling. The professional wrestling sport is a very secretive business. It is on a "what you see is what you get" basis. Many of the fans take the sport for face value and enjoy it for what it is, even if many of them are uninformed on the inside workings of it all. Although many books have been published about wrestling, a high number of them are as cryptic and secretive as the business itself. That is why I am motivated to go into an in-depth research to answer and unravel the questions of the professional wrestling world. Professional Wrestling. Part II: Knowledge and Preconceptions. After being exposed to professional wrestling for quite sometime, I became somewhat knowledgeable of the sport. I became familiar with most of the wrestling superstars it produced, notably Hulk Hogan which many consider the icon of pro- wrestling. I was also mindful of the wrestling maneuvers and techniques that were used. Although I knew all this, it was all common knowledge. Through personal experience, the people I know who are fans of the sport only know this basic ideology of its premise. I feel that one major reason for the scarce information on pro- wrestling is due to the lack of media coverage. Wrestling is infamous for blurring the lines between true sport and pure entertainment. Many major news, magazines, and articles rarely cover the wrestling world because of

Role Models in The Odyssy Essay -- Homer

Role models come in all shapes and sizes. In the epic poem The Odyssey, written by Homer, Odysseus faces many challenges in which he has to use certain traits of his to overcome his problems. Odysseus is a good role model because he is brave, intelligent, and unwavering. One of Odysseus’ traits is bravery. One example of Odysseus’ bravery is when he injures a Cyclops that is 5 times his size, â€Å"I drew it from the coals and my four fellows/ gave me a hand, lugging it near the Cyclops/ as more than natural force nerved them, straight forward they sprinted, lifted it, and rammed it/ deep in his crater eye. 329-332† This quote shows how brave Odysseus and his men are to face the Cyclops. Odysseus was intelligent to think about this idea, but he was brave for actually following through and doing it. Odysseus was also brave for fighting Penelope’s suitors even when he was outnumbered, â€Å"Now shrugging off his rags the wiliest fighter of the islands/ leapt and stood on the broad doorsill, his own bow in his hand/ he poured out at his feet a rain of arrows from the quiver/ and spoke to the c...

George of the Jungle :: Art

George of the Jungle The film â€Å"George of the Jungle†, directed by Sam Weisman is a romantic comedy and parody. In other words, it fully rips off Tarzan and makes a classic story seem stupid. In the beginning of the film the audience is shown a short cartoon about how George came to be in the jungle. When he was a baby George was flying over the jungle in a plane when it crashed. The passengers never found him and so apes raised him. Then the scene it cut to the present when a woman called Ursula came to the jungle as a tourist. She meets her materialist fiance Lyle Vanderbrute unexpectedly who wants to get out of the jungle as soon as possible. Lyle drags Ursula to see the apes but then a lion traps them. This is when George appears and saves Ursula by owning the lion in wrestling. Then George carries her off, takes care of her and goes back to the city with her. Then George’s friend, an educated ape, is kidnapped by poachers and George races back to save him. Ursula realises she loves George and goes after George, helps him bash the poachers and lives with him happily ever after in the jungle. This film is extremely good, if the audience were three–year–olds. It has an extraordinarily shallow and predictable plot and the gags and jokes are simply not funny. The actions of the characters are overtly exaggerated and very unrealistic. And the depth of the characters is about that of paper cuttings. This movie is designed to be viewed by people with the IQ of under fifty points. And frankly, I feel insulted at being made to watch this poor excuse of a study subject. There are, however, silly moments in the film. Like when we see a picture of a powerful, godlike human swinging through the jungle. The narrator has built up our expectation of greatness then, suddenly. The â€Å"hero† slams into a tree. This provides the audience with a laugh – the first time, but then, as if the scriptwriter ran out of ideas, they keep doing it again and again and again†¦ I was trying not to chuck things at the television and video recorder after the fifth time. I mean, its good making the viewers laugh – it’s a comedy, after all. But if I could I would slap the film crew each around the face and say: â€Å"Look people, if you can’t think of more than one gag for a comedy, try doing a serious film instead embarrassing yourselves in front of millions of people and corrupting their minds!† George of the Jungle :: Art George of the Jungle The film â€Å"George of the Jungle†, directed by Sam Weisman is a romantic comedy and parody. But if I could I would slap the film crew each around the face and say: â€Å"Look people, if you can’t think of more than one gag for a comedy, try doing a serious film instead embarrassing yourselves in front of millions of people and corrupting their minds!†

Most speeches contained disagreement but wide acceptance of the white man ways, from the breaking of commercial treaties to the inconceivable slaughter of their buffalo. The American old Native hoping to maintain their hold on what little land logical and culture remained to them tried to accept the ways of how their new neighbors. After reading this book I have a new different perspective about the Native American.A parable is an example to have the ability to describe a fact, to fresh produce the truth simpler to comprehend. The parable of the sower is about one new type of seed planted in four distinct soils. Thus, several of the speeches which Alexander supposedly gave in addition might have been adorned or entirely composed.
